The Advocacy Center has always been in the business of educating and supporting others, specifically those with disabilities and their families.  In 2009, we formally expanded our role to educate professionals who work with individuals with disabilities.  We recently announced the opening of The Center for Community Education.

Offerings for professionals in 2009 included a series entitled Understanding Autism, which included the following topics:  The Basics: How Autism Affects Individuals and Families,  Sensory Integration and Behavior Issues for Individuals with Autism, and Communication Considerations for Individuals with Autism.  The Autism series was offered in the spring and the fall of 2009 with a total of 68 participants.

Comments from participants:

“You need to take this workshop on the road so every service provider can hear the message.”

“I have worked with families all these years but never took the time to notice how they were affected by Autism.”

We will be hosting this series again in the spring of 2010.  Check our website calendar for all of our workshop offerings.
