The Advocacy Center offers workshops to individuals with disabilities, family members and professionals on a variety of disability-related topics.

Training workshops
The Advocacy Center offers training events for individuals with disabilities, family members and professionals.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

NOTE: Content can be adjusted to meet the needs of the audience. In addition, workshops on other topics related to disabilities can be developed with sufficient lead time.

Intended Audiences: Workshops are available to groups of parents and/or professionals.

Length of workshops: Workshops are designed to be 1-2 hours long, however, length can be adjusted to meet the needs of the audience.

Fees: Workshops are generally available to individuals with disabilities and family members at little or no cost, but advance registration may be required. Fees for professionals generally apply.

Location: Workshops are scheduled on a regular basis at The Advocacy Center and can be presented at other locations on request.

Family Education and Training (FET): Workshops can be provided to satisfy the Family Education and Training (FET) require¬ment to retain eligibility for the Medicaid Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver for children with developmental disabilities under the age of 18.

In addition to single session workshops, The Advocacy Center offers several workshop series:

  • Lay Advocacy – This multi-session series prepares parents to better advocate for their own children and to assist other parents in their area with educational advocacy. Participants are selected through an application process.
  • Partners in Policymaking – This multi-session series prepares individuals with developmental disabilities and family members to engage in systemic advocacy. Participants are selected through an application process.
  • Presenters for a New Attitude – This two-day workshop prepares individuals with disabilities and family members to deliver disability awareness presentations as part of The Advocacy Center’s Speakers Bureau. Participants are selected through an application process.
  • Transition: Creating a Life after High School – This multi-session series helps young adults with disabilities and their families to explore the options available after completing their education. Participants must meet eligibility requirements.
